Being the cover boy for Madden NFL is an honor. An honor that goes to a player who has been great for a while and one that comes with much fan fair. So I wanted to puke when I found out earlier today that Today EA Sports has revealed that the cover of Madden 10 will be shared by Steelers SS Troy Polamalu and Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald.
What, has this honor tunred into the All Star MVP voting? Why are these guys sharing it? It’s stupid, tacky and involves no creative thinking or decision making. I love both players and think they’re great choices to grace the cover, just so long as it was ONE of them doing so.
Fitzgerald is a great choice because he’s a modest guy who doesn’t come with all the diva BS that most WR’s bring withthem. he just goes out and dominates as we all saw during the season and playoffs when he single handedly took the Cardinals to the Super Bowl with his record setting numbers of seven TDs to go along with 546 yards on 30 receptions. Three of the TDs came in the NFC Championship and two in the Super Bowl, so we all know he’s a stud.
Along with Ray Lewis (a former Madden cover boy) Troy Polamalu is the most recognizable defensive player in the NFL. He’s won multiple Super Bowls and is well known for his hard hitting and wild style of play, plus his hair makes him impossible to ignore on the field.
I just don’t get why the braintrust who pick the cover couldn’t select just ONE guy to be the man for the cover.
Fitzgerald is scheduled to be on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight where he’ll discuss being the cover boy and they’ll also play the game which means we’ll get a chance to peep some stuff…shoudl be interesting.
I also put up a new pool question asking if you like the new cover with 2 guys so be sure to vote and leave feedback. I’m sure the lobbies on www.worldgaming.com will be buzzing about this all night!
