when it rains it bleeds

If you live in Papakura, New Zealand you’re probably going to be driving a lot safer these day because the government there isn’t messing around when it comes to having people follow the rules of the road. This is evident is their bad ass new bleeding billboard campaign which aims srace the living crap out reckless drivers.

I think they’ve accomplished what they set out to do! Anytime you have a system that spews blood when it rains you just might scare people into giving up their cars entirely. Not surprisingly, the billboards have been effective. Since they were put in place, there hasn’t been a single fatal accident in the area.

That’s surprising to me because I’d think if people were driving along and saw some billboard with a picture of a kids bleeding face they would look at it, freak out and be more incline to cause an accident, but I guess not. So, I hope this catches on because they’re not only clever but they’re actually effective.

red light…green light

Everyone has a thought on this one and here’s mine: those traffic loop sensors which are supposed embedded in stop lights to detect the presence of a car are BS. I’ve seen tons of products promising to eliminate red lights once and for all by fooling a mysterious (yet apparently gullible) system that’s hidden below the pavement.

They’ve all failed but this patent for bicycles seems to be more on the legit side, and could result in more cruising through intersections than ever before.

The systems work by detecting the shift in inductance caused by a huge metal object being in the vicinity of a charged loop of wire embedded in the road, thus knowing when someone is waiting for a light change. Bikes, naturally, have a hard time tripping these sensors, which are calibrated to avoid false positives by smaller objects. This sensor, then, emits a signal which fools the sensors at the press of a button.

I’ve always hated people on bikes because they’re nutjobs but if this works I say carry on cyclists, carry on.

The French performance art troupe “Not So Noisy” have spent the last month “assembling” giant, life-sized Autobots from normal cars, and shooting the action from overhead. Ok, they’re not really building anything but it’s still pretty cool. All they’re really doing is arranging cars (or people) in an empty parking lot so that it looks like some Megatron got wasted and fell over..but again…it’s still pretty sweet!

Not only have they photographed each event, they have time lapse footage of the process, which is pretty neat to watch. Not So Noisy has done this three times: once with cars and trucks, once with RetroBuses and once with people. Peep the video below and enjoy!

This is the new Midnight Club: Los Angeles trailer that just came out yesterday. For some reason I couldn’t up the HD version so this one will have to do for now.

Racing games always have some of the best graphics, they just look insane! I haven’t always been the biggest into racing games but after watching this…I think I’m going to start playing them more often.

Enjoy!!!
