New Scientist is aiming to put an end to all the political BS that we’re trated to, wouldn’t that be something?!? Behavioral scientist Paul Ekman is putting his best efforts in to summarize the world of political spin by developing a form of detection software that he claims can analyze a speech’s text for words that indicate untruths and deception. Another way to bust the untruthful is by analyzing the tenor of the voice, and facial recognition to spot lies is becoming more of a reality. Boyfriends and husdans everywhere are probably freaking out as they read this.
But don’t worry guys, much of the bullshit detector tech here might just be bullshit.
I gotta say…I call shennanigans! Shennanigans on how simple it is with some thing called the speech-processing algorithm which supposedly analyzes actual speech:
“The algorithm counts usage of first person nouns - “I” tends to indicate less spin than “we”, for example. It also searches out phrases that offer qualifications or clarifications of more general statements, since speeches that contain few such amendments tend to be high on spin.”
You be the judge.
