Riding the new Peak2Peak Gondola that connects Whistler’s Blackcomb and Whistler Mountain summits, over 2.7 miles, must be exhilarating. But jumping off it is just fucking insane.

Shortly after opening, these Two Red Bull sponsored lunatics rode a car to the mid point of the ride and jumped. That makes for a good preview of the fall, should one of these boxes full of 28 people ever fall out of the sky.

The Gondola itself holds records for its unsupported span of 1.88 miles between the two furthest towers, and for its rise, measuring over a quarter mile above the ground at its highest point.

At 16 miles per hour, it makes the traverse between the mountain tops, in 11 minutes. Contrast that with the usual ski down one peak, plus a drive to the base of the other (should you choose not to jump off it), plus a number of gondola, chair and tow rides upward, which easily could take over an hour or three.

For the record, this is my next winter vacation!

In today’s Change.gov YouTube video, President-Elect Obama sounded off on a few tech ideas that have, frankly, been a long time coming. He notes that the States ranks 15th in the world in broadband adoption, and lays out his plan to bring networking to all public domains.

I heard this a direct endorsement of WorldGaming and the fact that he wants people to play more video games for money.

Usually, Obama tosses in a mention or two about how important technology is, but today, we really see what he plans to do. He pledges to have broadband internet access available to all Americans, and promises to bring networked access to every doctor’s office, public school, and hospital. Part of Obama’s economic recovery plan will go directly to modernizing public hospitals, first and foremost to digitize all medical records.

Of course, all that is nice but pales in comparison to the plan to have every online gamer playing on WorldGaming.

Sure, he leave out certain important concepts, most importantly how he’s going to pay for all this, and I’m unclear on how exactly he plans to force ISPs into reaching into parts of the country where they can’t turn a profit. But whatever, this only can be a good thing for us!

Some people never fail to amaze me and this guy is one of them. You might remember that last New Years Eve, Rhys Millen was supposed to perform a backflip in a truck on live TV.

Except for one little problem: he broke a bunch of his vertebrae during a practice run and had to cancel.

Well, this genius of a man is gonna give it another try this year, and to get you all pumped up for it, Red Bull has released the video of his crash which you can watch below. Because who wouldn’t want to see a an idiot do half a backflip in a pickup truck?

It’s not hard to see that the Republic of Korea is obviously attempting to seduce impressionable teenage gamers into their armed forces by begining to develope a badass science fiction battle uniform that would be due out early next year.

Not only is this thing totally awesome, but the uniforms will feature a number of other technical enhancements, including a multifunction helmet with video transmitter, GPS display and voice recognition, a backpack with command / control and friendly-or-foe identification systems, a BDU that offers protection from nuclear, biological and chemical attacks, and the laser-guided, multi-function XK11 assault rifle, which shoots both standard NATO 5.56mm rounds and 20mm grenades.

I’m just curious…did the future just get way cooler, or way scarier?

Or both?

Kinda like the LED strobes that enable the fine-tuning of turntable rotation speeds, this DIY “Acid Machine” has a bad ass way of visualizing its sound: A rotating disc printed with a special pattern that isolates a thin radial disc depending on the frequency of a strobing LED that corresponds to the note played.

I’ll be honest, I really don’t know what the fuck that means but it’s what I could gather from showing this site to a freind of mine who speaks nerd tech.

I’ve always like Brad Pitt and not because I fantasize about him running through a dewy meadow with his shirt off and glistening from sweat like most other people do. I like him because he’s pretty funny in his movies. Oh…and he bangs and/or has banged hot chicks.
